She also noted that joint annual subscription for CPN and NCS members was not feasible because the two are different professional bodies.
NCS was recommended for inclusion as a member of the Board of the Bureau of Statistics.
- The NITDA ACT: The President expressed displeasure that the NITDA Bill which NCS promoted has been passed, but with NCS not being mentioned specifically as a member of the NITDA Board. NCS, he noted, could only be a member of the NITDA Board through the CPN.
He noted that the Bill had so many imperfections including the fact that it did not specify any form of qualifications for potential NITDA Director General. He therefore advised that the review process should start immediately.
- The .ng Problem: The President informed members that with the resolution of the dispute on the initial registration of Nigeria’s .ng country code domain by contending groups and individuals, the 1st AGM of NIRA summoned by the Chairman BOT, Dr. Isaac Odeyemi witnessed the emergence of the 1st Executive members.
- Software Developers’ Summit: The President promised that unfailingly, the 4th Software Developers’ Summit would hold latest in September 2007 with or without Microsoft’s sponsorship.
- Departure: The President, Dr. Chris C. Nwannenna informed members of the death of Mrs. Rosaline Williams, a Fellow of NCS. The Society was adequately represented at her Service of Songs.
Finally, the President, Dr. Chris C. Nwannenna expressed his immense gratitude to all NEC members, some senior colleagues, organizations, state governments, individuals and the Secretariat Staff for their unflinching support all through his mandate as the President of the Nigeria Computer Society.
2007/05 Executive Secretary’s Report:
The Executive Secretary, Mr. Ejide F. Oladunmoye read his report as contained in the annual report.
2007/06 General Comment on the President’s Address and the Executive Secretary’s Report
A motion for the adoption of the President’s Address and the Executive Secretary’s Report was moved by Prof. Oliver Osuagwu, seconded by Mr. Allwell Achumba.
- On Software Developers’ Summit, Dr. G. M.M Obi was of the opinion that sponsorship should be sought from organizations for this event, instead of always depending on Microsoft. He advised NEC to work on this.
- Mr. Adeaga John advised members to always pay their annual dues as at when due and not delay till every election year. This would only set the Society back.
- Dr. Isaac Odeyemi congratulated the President and the National Executive Council for their achievements all through their tenure especially with the completion of the Secretariat building within a space of months.
Dr. Odeyemi went further to comment on the seemingly poor organization of the year’s Conference compared with the previous Conference at Adamawa State. He advised the President not to relent in his effort in getting financial support from Imo State Government.
In his response, the President informed the house that the Conference appeared less organized because the Chairman, Conferences Committee, Mrs. Ajibike Itegboje was not available to make the usual arrangement; she was said to be ill and had traveled out of the country for medical attention. As for sponsorship from Imo State Government, he promised to make sure monetary support was got from the government. He noted that the delay in getting sponsorship from the Imo state government was because the government had not settled down.
- On the timing of annual Conferences, Deacon O.K. Oji-Alala advised that dates of Conferences should be chosen in such a way that they do not fall within government transition periods.
On the Executive Secretary’s Report, he suggested that yearly activities should be clearly stated so that members would be fully aware of the happenings in the Society.
He also noted that some of the Interest Groups are virtually non-existent. He advised that since these Interest Groups were really not working with NCS, their names should be dropped from the list of Interest Groups in the Society.
- Mr. Allwell Achumba commented on the low attendance of some NEC members at meetings. He advised members to make sure they voted for NEC officials who would be committed to the growth of the Society.
- Alhaji Ladi Ogunnenye was of the opinion that the President’s Address should not be commented on and that the Executive Secretary’s Report was not supposed to be personalized because money generated towards the upkeep of the Society was not a personal effort.
- Mr. Chris Uwaje commented on the zero percent attendance recorded against ISPON President, Mr. Simeon Agu at NEC regular meetings. He said that ISPON had been deeply involved in the recognition of Indigenous Software in the country and had been having several meetings with stakeholders.
- Miss Maryanne Emeruo Dede suggested that for easier and faster payment of annual dues and other financial obligations, online payment system should be deployed by NCS. The President replied that for the time being, a semi online system was in use and it involved members being given bank account numbers to make their payments, scanning payment slips and sending to the Secretariat via e-mail.
2007/07 Audit Report
- Mr. Abimbola Olayinka presented the audited report of the year.
Dr. Anigbogu Sylvanus moved the motion for the adoption of the report and was seconded by Dr. Isaac Odeyemi.
- Miss Maryanne Emeruo Dede noted that Conference Registration and Software Developers’ Summit did not indicate amounts in their respective columns. Mr. Olayinka replied that the total amount on Sponsorship was made up of Conference Registration and Sponsorship. As for Software Developers’ Summit, the money was paid after the 2006 accounting year had ended and consequently, it was moved to 2007 accounting year.
- On debt recovery, a member suggested that serious efforts should be made to recover outstanding debts. In reply, the President said that the incoming NEC might have to work on that.
2007/08 Appointment of Auditors:
Mr. John Adeaga moved the motion for the re-appointment of Messrs Marinho & Partners as Auditors. This was seconded by Dr. Anigbogu Sylvanus. The motion was then unanimously passed.
2007/09 Constitution Review:
The President asked members to mandate the incoming NEC and Fellows to collate comments and present at the next Annual General Meeting. Members were given from 20th July 2007 to 20th September 2007 to send in their comments. The President promised that the reviewed Constitution would be on the website within a week from then.
2007/10 A.O.B
- Mr. Sadiq Fatai complained that some Conference materials were
not given to those that registered for the Conference. The President advised those who did not get the complete materials to submit their names and addresses to the Secretariat Staff.
- Dr. Isaac Odeyemi moved a motion for the employment of an Executive Secretary. The President replied that the process was on-going.
2007/11 Dissolution of the 14th National Executive Council:
Mr. Allwell Achumba moved a motion for dissolution of the 14th National Executive Council of the Nigeria Computer Society. The motion was seconded by Mr. Ezeh Cletus Chukwuemeka.
